Emergency Lockdown today – precautionary measure only
Today our school experienced an incident which necessitated a brief “lockdown”. The incident lasted approximately 40 minutes and I am very thankful to be able to report that no member of our school community was in any danger at any time.
Briefly, a member of the public presented at our student services counter, collapsed and was offered first aid. The member of the public then began to wander around the front garden and lawn area of our school in a disoriented and unresponsive state. As a precautionary measure in order to ensure everyone’s safety, I asked staff and students to observe “lockdown” procedures, in which students and teachers lock themselves into whatever room they are in at the time, close windows and blinds, and remain quiet until the “all clear” is sounded. This is a procedure that all students and staff are familiar with, thanks to our regular drills.
I would like to congratulate all of our students and teachers for the exemplary manner in which our lockdown was carried out.
The member of the public was attended by paramedics and is currently receiving the appropriate support, I debriefed with our students and staff during a quick whole school assembly (ensuring that we remained Covid safe!) and I am very pleased that students and teachers have now resumed class.
In particular, I would like to acknowledge Mrs Bayliss and Mrs Cullen from our office staff, our GA Mr Walker and our Deputy Principals Mr Borg and Mrs Rosser (Relieving Mr Matthias for today) for their efforts in keeping our school safe.
