Kingscliff High School a Mobile / Digital Device Free Zone
Our school takes very seriously its ambition to inspire students to become lifelong learners and aspirational citizens. This informs not only our ongoing shared work in creating engaging, innovative learning opportunities, but also our shared responsibility for learner wellbeing.
The world of learning, and the factors which either support or impact on student engagement with learning, are both dynamic and constantly evolving. Student use of mobile phones and other related digital devices at school are a case in point. While there are certainly sound examples of digital devices, used responsibly and positively, contributing to rich learning experiences, there are also, unfortunately, many examples where this is not the case.
Parents and carers will be well aware of the growing body of evidence indicating the negative impact of digital devices and social media, when not used responsibly or with a positive purpose, on young people. Our focus at Kingscliff High School is to defend the quality of our learning time, which can be impacted by irresponsible use of digital devices, and to support the wellbeing of the young people under our care. With this in mind, we will soon form a working partnership with the ‘Over Yondr’ group (see the link below), with the purpose of making Kingscliff High School a ‘mobile phone free zone’.
Parents and carers wanting to find out more about our approach to mobile phone usage by students at Kingscliff High School, are welcome to attend our regular P&C meetings, held on the second Monday of every month during school term, from 6:30pm in our Library.
